Need AC repair, a new heat pump or a full system replacement in Corpus Christi? Start with the HVAC contractors listed below. Compare their ratings, then request a quote from any listing using the quote form.
The City of Corpus Christi is specific about when HVAC work needs a mechanical permit. Its homeowner permitting guide says you need one to install a new AC unit, a new furnace, or duct outlets and duct systems. Swapping minor parts, as long as the equipment stays safe, and installing a portable unit don't need one. Permitted HVAC work gets a rough-in inspection and a final inspection. You can hire a contractor or, if you're doing the work yourself on your own homestead, apply for a homeowner trade permit. The city also says you can call Development Services to check whether a contractor is registered with the city.
Check the state license as well. Texas requires a license from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to install, repair or maintain air conditioning, heating or refrigeration systems. Ask for the ACR license number and look it up on the TDLR License Search. For a new split-system central AC, the federal minimum in Texas since January 1, 2023 is 14.3 SEER2, or 13.8 SEER2 for larger units.
